It is a No for Racism

RACE, one word that has two meanings. Referred to the thesaurus, the first one relates with contest, chase, dash, and so on. The other one is associated with ethnic group, racial type, origin, and etc. This article would not focussed on the first one, but rather, let me share about the second one, for the one that I have observed.

Recently, I have been bothered by news in my country. It is about a man, a lawyer, that criticizes the vice governor over the Twitter. The one that bothered me is about his tweet that contains racism. I feel sorry for him and his educational background. In this new century, it is so primordial to use racism to insult someone. I have no idea if this action is one of his strategies to raise his popularity and attracts attention for his existence. But, who am I, I am not in a competency to further assess somebody political moves.

In my opinion, there is no single reason for someone to tell something that contains racism statement and hurts somebody heart. While we see a single person as a world citizen, there is no single measurement that can justify and rank the person based on his/her race. It is only a matter of skin and hair colours, hair types, eyes, and other physical characteristics. The five major races in the world (based on traditional anthropological) have their own uniqueness.

During this postgraduate study, I have met many people from other countries. Most of them are from Mideast while some others are from Africa, Korea, China, India, and others. Yes, based on the race, they have their own uniqueness.

At one time, while attending the Jumu’ah, siting in shaf and facing towards back of the front person, I have noticed that design of ears is very diverse. Have you ever think that the ears design must be on purpose from the Creator? Maybe it is related with temperature, humidity, and effectiveness of audio reception. In addition, maybe it is also related with language, tone, and pitch so the communication can be done better. These possibilities blow my mind and disturb my attention for the khatib’s speech. Silly me.

Moreover, still sitting while Jumu’ah, I also have noticed that the curly hair of African people is also amazingly different. There are small curl, infrequently small curl, and curl that may evolve into afro. I am surprised, one thing that I have never noticed previously.

On another time, I also have tried to appreciate beauty of women and adorability of kid from different country. If you think the beauty in represented by Hollywood or Bollywood artist, please consider to appreciate beauty and adorability of dark-coloured skin. You would also amaze.

Even for European, I also have noticed that their skin, hair, eyes are also various. For skin, there is fair white that shadowed by pink, very bright white (Russians), fair with freckles, freckles on face, scattered or converged. The eyes can be brown, blue, and even, green. For hair, there are various kinds such as golden, blonde, white, and ginger head.

One of my brothers has a theory that the color skin can be mapped based on north and south position of the race. The theory is “from North to South, the skin color will be getting darker”. He explains that the European has brighter skin than people in Mideast. Get down to the south, the skin gets darker as we can see in African people. The apparent sample can be observed from America Continent that extends from north to south. Please imagine sequence of person from Alaska (Eskimos people)-Canada-USA (Indian people)-Mexico-Columbia-Brazil-Bolivia-Argentina. Then, how about Australian? Yes, the theory is also applied. The real Australian is the Aborigin people. Whether this theory is true or not, I think some of this can be true.

Well, sometimes, it makes me simply smile, how wonderful the Creator, and sometime funny.

O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).” (Al Quran 49. Al Hujuraat:13)
